Strawberry French Toast

Essential Ingredients

120ml milk
1 tbsp cornstarch or flour
1 tsp vanilla essence
2-4 slices bread
2 tbsp butter, for frying
150g + 4 individual strawberries
1 tsp cinnamon
To serve: yogurt, maple syrup


  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, cornstarch and vanilla essence until smooth. Chop the 4 strawberries into small pieces.
  2. Add some butter/margarine to a large frying pan over a medium heat. Place one slice of bread into the batter to soak up, flip over and soak for a few more seconds.
  3. Add 1-2 slices of bread to the pan, press a few small strawberry pieces into the bread cook for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Flip over and cook on the second side for a few minutes.
  4. Repeat to cook all the French toast.
  5. Meanwhile, chop the 150g strawberries and add to a saucepan with a splash of water and the cinnamon. Warm for 5 minutes or until soft and warmed through.
  6. Serve the French toast topped with the warm strawberry compote and any other toppings.
