Chocolate Orange Tart

 
 

Chocolate orange is one of those random but delicious combos that someone was smart enough to try years ago and I am so grateful for it! You can enjoy it warm or cold, and it goes perfectly with a dollop of whipped cream, ice cream or yogurt.

Ingredients


For the pastry: 200g plain flour 3 tbsp cacao powder 50g icing sugar Zest of 1 orange 150g unsalted butter, cut into small cubes 1 egg, beaten


For the topping: 300ml double cream Zest of 2 oranges 2 tsp caster sugar 250g dark chocolate, broken into small pieces 2 eggs, beaten


Method


1.
For the pastry, blitz together in a food processor flour, cacao powder, icing sugar, orange zest, and chilled butter until fine crumbles. Add egg and mix until well combined, create a ball with your hands and wrap with cling film. Refrigerate for 30 min.

Roll the dough and place over a greased tart mould. Refrigerate for 15 min.

Bake at 180C for 20 min adding parchment paper and baking beans on the top. Remove and bake for extra 5 min until crunchy.

Add the cream, sugar and orange zest in a saucepan and cook until it starts simmering. Add the dark chocolate and stir until the chocolate has melted. Remove from the heat. Add the eggs and immediately whisk very quickly until smooth.

Pour the mixture into the baked tart shell and bake for 15 minutes, or until set. Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely.
